Torn Ligament When Traveling? How to get Healthcare in Perú
My last post talked about bad travel and following your gut instinct.
When travel goes wrong it is good to have answers and solutions for forward movement.
Today, is a new day and where situational control takes over. And all is right with the world once again.
And as so many nomads and travelers know, healthcare outside of the US can be good and less expensive. This is the case in Cusco, Peru.
In less than an hour, I saw the doctor, had x-rays, an ultrasound, prescriptions, and leg brace. Diagnosis, a torn LCL ligament. In two weeks, it should be healed. I will see a doctor and have another ultrasound in Santiago. Cost $300US.
This is where travel can go from bad to better. I had already booked two weeks in an apartment with a lap pool in Santiago for two weeks. I will recover, swim laps, see the doctor, and move on to my Antarctica expedition.
Just knowing what was wrong, having a plan and likely solution makes me feel better. Even it if requires two weeks in a leg brace and rest. It will be a simple time in Santiago, and I am good with that. Full time travel requires it.
In a new post, with a clearer mind and plenty of time to write, I will share the Machu Picchu experience and suggestions for how you can go if you’re interested.
Now I am sitting in the Cusco VIP lounge, leg up, drinking water and eating nibbles. I have a night in Lima to pick up stuff I didn’t need for Machu Picchu. Then onto Santiago.
Today, life is good and much better than the previous four days. That’s the point there is always a new day.
