Lunch at Chez Panisse: Where Delicious Food and a Joyful Buzz Collide

Spending my Summer in Northern California was not by chance. There were some places I wanted to visit. See Photo Journeys for more photos from Chez Panisse

In Berkeley, California, more than 50 years ago, Alice Waters staked her claim making great food from local farmers and purveyors. Today, Chez Panisse continues to serve the community through the restaurant and giving back to the community. Revered for its commitment to local, organic ingredients and innovative cuisine, Chez Panisse has become an institution in the Bay Area's vibrant food scene.

I had the pleasure of experiencing a Friday lunch at Chez Panisse. From the atmosphere filled with lively conversations and laughter to the impeccable service and good, simple food, it was a nice visit.

The menu at this well-respected restaurant changes regularly, celebrating the best of what locally sourced food provides. It is clear each ingredient was thoughtfully selected and expertly prepared. Clearly, the chefs at Chez Panisse possess an understanding of their craft, and their dedication to showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients is appreciated.

I love a restaurant with a buzz. The dining room at Chez Panisse on a Friday afternoon had the hum of lively conversations. The animated chatter of friends, locals, visitors and fellow foodies sharing stories and relishing in the collective joy of the dining experience added to my dining experience. Chez Panisse is a place to share the love for good, local food done well and simply. The staff continues to provide a welcoming environment creating a sense of community.

I chose to eat simply, good food. The baked Andante Dairy (Petaluma, CA) goat cheese covered in breadcrumbs and herbs was served with a simple salad of fresh garden lettuces and light dressing. Since rhubarb was in season, I selected the galette with Chez Panisse vanilla ice cream. Neither disappointed.

If you find yourself in Berkeley, I highly recommend making a reservation. The Café serves lunch on Friday and Saturday may be more accessible than dinner.
