Experience the Excitement: “Come on Down” to The Price is Right!

Do you watch the Price is Right? Have you gone to a show? Where were you the week before Thanksgiving? Let me know in comments.

I randomly posted to Facebook my housesit plans in Los Angeles and someone suggested I get tickets to The Price as Right – and other game shows filmed there.

Now that the show aired February 21, 2024, on CBS –  available on demand or app, I can share my experience. You sign a contract that you will not talk about the outcome of the show or your participation until it has aired. The taping was November 16, 2023.

 Enjoy the photos!

It is so easy to get tickets and SO MUCH FUN! You can get all the information on The Price is Right website. I told a few friends and of course they had their own Price is Right stories. Karin Baird had a good friend Kathy Butler (fellow Chicagoan) who had been AND WON the SHOWCASE! Many thanks to Kathy for her great tips on how to get picked. She also said there was no way know prices or guess correctly. Just have fun! She was right.

Other friends suggest I make a Price is Right t-shirt. I didn’t have enough time for a custom order (which a lot of people had) so got one on Amazon.

The taping will take about 4-5 hours of your day. The people you meet, and The Price is Right team are wonderful. Everyone was excited to be in the audience, and maybe even to be get picked for contestant row!

We gathered outside waiting to enter. Everyone had a Price is Right story about a friend or trying to get tickets or how long they’ve been watching. How we miss Bob Barker, but Drew Carey has done great! We were having a shared experience none of us will forget. We connected on Facebook, took photos. It was fun.

A crowd of students from California State University Northridge Cheer Squad joins the line. All wearing red CSUN shirts.

We enter the building, stop to get the handwritten, classic Price is Right nametag. How she gets all the letters on is a skill! It is stuck to my laptop now. Then we enter the waiting room. They take our photo and ask a few questions. Great music is playing and there is an energy in the room.

After about an hour, the Price is Right team starts calling us in groups for the “interview”. Everyone encourages us to keep up the “high energy”, fun and be yourself. We walk out the door and three Price is Right staff are sitting in director chairs with legal pads in the hallway.

They want to know where we are from and something about us. Our choice. We’re all excited. I let them know I travel full time, don’t have a permanent home and excited to be in Los Angeles housesitting.

It is all over in less than five minutes – back to the waiting room. We have no idea if we are in or out. But don’t care, we’ll see the show and have some fun.

Finally, they lead us to The Price is Right studio! On the way we leave our cell phones with security. NO cameras in the studio.  And then we’re there! THE studio. Wow it’s smaller than it looks on TV, but very bright and the “flowers” on the wall remind me of the Dating Game set.

George comes out and says hello. We are clapping and cheering. He tells us what’s going to happen and to keep that energy up!

IF he calls our name, we will not hear him because everyone is screaming.

SO, there is a staff person with a cue card and your name written on it.

THAT is how you know if you’re going to contestant row!

Then Drew comes out and we all go nuts! And the game begins. You can feel the excitement waiting to see who is called to contestant row. The 150 people you have spent the last three hours with are your friends. We’re cheering for everyone.

I was called to contestant row for the last two segments. I have no idea the cost of Fussball tables or a set of golf clubs, including one that has a remote-controlled cart. But I didn’t care. It was so much fun!

You can watch the replay on demand or the CBS app, look for February 21, 2024, prime time. They made a big deal that it would be on at night.

Yes I got called to contestant row. You can too!

It’s fun, nerve wracking, hilarious, people are screaming, you’re looking for price help, Drew Carey is talking to you, you can’t hear anything.

Now that I have been on contestant row – win or lose – I have to wait 10 years to maybe get picked again. (Kathy is almost at 10 years and plans to go back.) I could be dead in 10 years, so I’m not waiting. I can get tickets and go to the show but won’t be eligible for contestant row. Or look for another show to attend.

If you’re going to Los Angeles and have the time, I recommend getting tv show tickets. It really is enjoyable and you never know what will happen!

Send me an email with your TV story or if you have any questions.
